Establishing and Reaffirming the Company Mission – Part 1 of 5

Today marks the beginning of a series where we’ll delve into the essential aspects of the business planning process. At our company, planning isn’t just a yearly ritual—it’s a continuous effort that guides our operations at every level. Traditionally, our annual planning session occurs in the final quarter of the year to set the stage for the upcoming year. However, due to scheduling constraints, this year’s session took place in early January. Regardless of timing, this annual cycle serves as a critical opportunity to reaffirm our objectives within the context of our long-term vision. Central to our planning process is our mission: to create communities that resonate with people and become places they’re proud to call home. While this might sound like a cliché, it’s the cornerstone that guides our project selection and execution strategies. When we undertake a new residential development, we face a pivotal choice: prioritize density and efficiency or focus on thoughtful design that enhances community living. We believe in the latter approach, where amenities and open spaces enrich the fabric of the neighborhood, fostering a sense of belonging. Take, for instance, our ambitious project in Colorado Springs. Here, community engagement isn’t an afterthought—it’s integral to our design process. We collaborate with residents to identify meaningful enhancements, ensuring that our developments reflect the unique character and needs of the area. In every aspect of our design, from road layout to interior configurations, we prioritize functionality and comfort. Gone are the days of cookie-cutter amenities like tennis courts; instead, we’re incorporating features like dog runs, electric vehicle charging stations, and e-commerce delivery lockers to meet the evolving demands of modern living. But as we pursue our mission, we’re also mindful of staying aligned with our core values. We recognize that some of our ventures, such as storage facilities and light industrial properties, may not seem directly connected to community building. Yet, these investments serve a purpose—they address practical needs and contribute to the overall well-being of our neighborhoods. Storage facilities may not seem like an obvious contributor to community building, but they serve a crucial function in enhancing residents’ quality of life. While our senior housing developments align seamlessly with our mission, the role of storage facilities may appear less clear. However, these facilities play a vital role in addressing practical needs and reducing clutter in homes, contributing to a more organized and comfortable living environment. As apartments trend towards smaller sizes, particularly with baby boomers downsizing, the challenge of managing possessions becomes increasingly significant. Storage facilities offer a solution to this dilemma, allowing residents to retain cherished belongings without overcrowding their living spaces. While storage may not be a primary motivator for individuals to move into an area, it fulfills an essential need and supports our overarching mission of creating communities where people feel at home. Furthermore, our commitment to community building extends beyond traditional amenities like parks and playgrounds. We prioritize creativity and innovation, seeking opportunities to enhance neighborhoods in unique ways. Whether it’s creating bike paths, green spaces, or incorporating sustainable features, we aim to design environments that delight residents and foster a sense of belonging. Our approach to business planning reflects this mission-driven mindset. By aligning our goals with our overarching mission, we ensure that every project contributes meaningfully to community development. This strategic focus guides our decision-making process, helping us prioritize projects that align with our values and long-term vision. As we assess our investments, we confront challenging questions: Do storage facilities align with our mission? Should we expand or scale back these ventures? While the answers aren’t always straightforward, we remain committed to our overarching goal: creating communities that stand the test of time. In our upcoming discussions, we’ll explore other facets of the business planning process, shedding light on the strategies and considerations that drive our decision-making. Join us as we delve deeper into the intricacies of real estate development and uncover the principles that guide our approach. As you reflect on today’s insights, we encourage you to consider the role of storage facilities and other unconventional elements in community building. Every detail, no matter how small, contributes to the fabric of our neighborhoods and shapes the experiences of residents. Until our next conversation, continue to embrace creativity and innovation in all your endeavors. Until then, have a wonderful day and keep striving to make a positive impact in your communities.
